Seal Beach Tennis Center to host Qualifying for JPMorgan Chase Open, Aug. 6-7

Finalists will appear in main draw at Home Depot Center in Carson, Aug. 8-14

CARSON, Calif. (Aug. 4, 2005) - The Seal Beach Tennis Center will host the qualifying tournament for the prestigious 2005 JPMorgan Chase Open Saturday Aug. 6 and Sunday, Aug. 7. Admission is free. Play will begin at 10 a.m. both days.

There will be a 32-player singles draw and 16 doubles draw at Seal Beach. The top eight singles players qualify for singles and the top four doubles teams qualify for doubles play in the JPMorgan Chase Open, Aug. 8-14, at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills in Carson. Top seeds for the JPMorgan Chase Open are: Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Elena Dementieva, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Nadia Petrova, Vera Zvonareva and Kim Clijsters.

Among the participants hoping to gain a qualifying spot in the main draw are Southern California favorites Angela Haynes of Irvine and Meilen Tu of Porter Ranch. Alexandra Stevenson of San Diego, Bethanie Mattek of Miami and Neha Uberoi of Boca Raton, Fla., have been awarded wild cards into the qualifying. Also competing are rising stars Jie Zheng of China and Sania Mirza of India.

The Seal Beach Tennis Center (3900 Lampson Avenue, Seal Beach, CA 90740; 562-598-8624) is a 16-court tennis facility with a state-of-the-art fitness center and clubhouse. Located right off the 405 Freeway in South Orange County, it is rated one of the finest public tennis facilities in Southern California. As the qualifying site for the 2005 JPMorgan Chase Open, it will also serve as a nice, relaxed setting for local tennis enthusiasts.
