The USTA added $1.7 million in US Open Series Bonus payments to the $17.7 million overall US Open guaranteed prize money to bring the overall US Open Prize Money payout to $19.4 million.
Kim Clijsters, the 2005 US Open women’s champion and winner of the US Open Series, doubled her prize money to collect $2.2 million - - the richest prize in women’s sports history.
Andre Agassi and Mary Pierce, who both finished second in the US Open Series, earned a 50% bonus, an additional $275,000, to earn a total of $825,000 as the finalists in the men’s and women’s final.
Others receiving US Open Series bonuses included Amelie Mauresmo ($33,750), Andy Roddick ($15,000) and Rafael Nadal ($10,000).
