RCA Championships Announces 2006 Player Field
Dominik Hrbaty, Greg Rusedski and Dmitry Tursunov return to Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS…International players Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia, Greg Rusedski of Great Britian and Dmitry Tursunov of Russia will join American players Andy Roddick, James Blake, Robby Ginepri, Justin Gimelstob, Kevin Kim, Bobby Reynolds and Vincent Spadea at the 2006 RCA Championships, which will be held July 15-23, at the Indianapolis Tennis center on the campus of IUPUI.
“We believe that with the balance of American and international players will deliver some of the best entertainment in town from July 15-23,” said RCA Championships Tournament Director. “Tennis is a global sport and every year we are able to bring a great blend of tennis talent from all over the world to Indianapolis for one week every year.”
Slovakia’s No.1 player Dominik Hrbaty will be making his 3rd appearance in Indianapolis. In 2005 he finished in the Top 20 and won at least 40 matches for the second straight year. He lead his country to its first Davis Cup final (l. to Croatia 32) by compiling a 6-1 singles mark with wins over defending champion Spain, the Netherlands and Argentina. In the 2005 Davis Cup final he accounted for both singles wins in the loss to Croatia, when he defeated both Mario Ancic and Ivan Ljubicic in five sets. He is currently ranked No. 22 on INDESIT ATP Rankings and reached the semifinals at Adelaide.
The 2002 RCA Championships Singles Champion Greg Rusedski will be making his 9th appearance and has a career record of 15-7 in Indianapolis. In 2005 the British left-hander finished in the Top 50 for the 10th time in his career and won an ATP title for the fifth straight year. Won his 15th career title with a repeat performance in Newport and was the lone British winner on the ATP circuit in 2005. He played well during the North American summer circuit with his win in Newport and reaching the semifinals in Indianapolis and AMS Montreal. He is currently ranked No. 37 on the INDESIT ATP Rankings.
The young Russian, from Moscow, Dmitry Tursunov continued his rise on the ATP circuit in 2005. He won a career high 17 matches and finished in the Top 60 for the first time. In 2006 his rise up the INDESIT ATP Rankings continues. He is currently ranked No. 31, has notched 18 match wins this season and has helped Russia into the Davis Cup semifinals vs. the U.S. in September by winning matches in the first two rounds. He has reached the quarterfinals in three tournaments (Doha, Memphis and Sydney). This will be his second appearance in Indianapolis.
The RCA Championships is a world-class tennis event held annually in Indianapolis. The event, which traces its roots back to 1920, has hosted such notable players as Pete Sampras, Arthur Ashe, Jimmy Connors, Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick.
