Blake defeats Kukushkin at Winston-Salem Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- American James Blake defeated Kazhakhstan's Mikhail Kukushkin 7-5, 6-1 on Sunday night in the Winston-Salem Open, the final men's tuneup for the U.S. Open.

Russia's Igor Andreev beat Australia's Bernard Tomic 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.

Earlier, Germany's Tobias Kamke defeated Colombia's Alejandro Falla 6-1, 6-0 Sunday in the Winston-Salem Open.

American Ryan Sweeting beat Belgium's Olivier Rochus 6-3, 7-5 in another first-round match.

The 16 seeded players, including No. 1 seed Andy Roddick, drew opening-round byes.
