WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Players from 21 countries will take to the courts at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex later this summer to compete in the 2018 Winston-Salem Open.
David Goffin (9), 2016 Winston-Salem Open champion Pablo Carreno Busta (12), Sam Querrey (13), Hyeon Chung (22) and 2017 finalist Damir Dzuhmur (23) headline a solid field for the US Open Series finale, which will take place Aug. 18-25. The 2018 field features 16 players currently ranked inside the world’s Top 50.
Crowd favorites Fernando Verdasco (34), Steve Johnson (42), Jared Donaldson (54), Ryan Harrison (59), Julien Benneteau (63) and Feliciano Lopez (70) will also return to the tournament.
“The Winston-Salem Open has proved to be a unique opportunity to many of the top men,” says Tournament Director Bill Oakes. “Thirteen of the current ATP world Top 20 have played at this event since we began in 2011. This year’s field proves you don’t have to go far to see world-class tennis, and we could not be more excited for our fans or the community.”
Second-ranked American Sam Querrey is enthusiastic about competing in this year's tournament. “It’s a pleasure for me to return to Winston-Salem," Querrey said. "The fans are amazing, and the atmosphere is perfect preparation for the US Open. It’s a great event, and I am looking forward to being part of it.”
The Winston-Salem Open is the final tournament in the summer-long US Open Series. The ATP event began in 2011, and, in 2017, the tournament reached a global audience of more than 3.5 million in more than 100 countries. It was named ATP Tournament of the Year in 2016, as voted on by the players.
