ATLANTA -- Main-draw action kicked off at the BB&T Atlanta Open Monday, with Americans Ryan Harrison and Rhyne Williams posting opening-round wins.

Harrison, a former junior world No. 7, needed three sets to defeat Marinko Matosevic of Australia, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3. After a quick first-set win, Harrison began to lose his cool in the second set, becoming visibly frustrated on court. He dropped the second set 6-2 but quickly regained his composure in the final set, gaining an early break to go up 3-2. He eventually took a 5-3 lead in the set before closing out the match.

Harrison will play No. 4 seed Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands in the second round.

Former University of Tennessee star Rhyne Williams also advanced, beating former world junior No. 3 Denis Kudla, 7-5, 6-4, in a battle of two wild cards.

First-round action continues Tuesday, with Lleyton Hewitt, Jack Sock and Mardy Fish on the schedule.
