John Isner claimed his first BB&T Atlanta Open title Sunday and grabbed an early lead in the Emirates Airline US Open Series Bonus Challenge by defeating South Africa’s Kevin Anderson, 7-6(3), 6-7(2), 7-6(2), to win the Series’ opening men’s event. Isner, who finished second to Novak Djokovic in the Bonus Challenge last year, was making his third appearance in the Atlanta final in the last four years, having lost to fellow American Mardy Fish in 2010 and 2011. The title is Isner’s third on the Emirates Airline US Open Series, tied for the fourth most by a single player.
Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia won her second career Emirates Airline US Open Series event by upending Agnieszka Radwanska, of Poland, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, Calif., the Series’ opening women’s event. Her first title on the Emirates Airline US Open Series came in Carlsbad, Calif., last year, when she finished third in the EAUSOS Bonus Challenge.

Next on the Emirates Airline US Open Series: The men play at the Citi Open in Washington, D.C., this week, while the women take the courts at the Southern California Open in Carlsbad, Calif. Television coverage from both events begins with eight hours on Tennis Channel on Thursday and continues through the weekend.
