Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki will return to the New Haven Open in 2014, a tournament which she has won four times in her career.

Four-time champion and world No. 14 Caroline Wozniacki has committed to play the 2014 New Haven Open, part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series to be held August 15-23, 2014, at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale.
Wozniacki joins French Open semifinalist and world No. 16 Genie Bouchard, who is into her second consecutive Grand Slam semifinal, in the field. In addition, French Open quarterfinalists world No. 4 and Defending Champion Simona Halep and world No. 11 Sara Errani, and world No. 6 Petra Kvitova are also committed to the tournament.
The 23-year-old Dane has won over 90 percent of her matches in New Haven, compiling a 24-2 record in her six years at the event, earning her the nickname “Queen of New Haven.” After hoisting the trophy four years in a row, Wozniacki retired due to injury in 2012 and loss to eventual Champion Simona Halep in the 2013 semifinals.
Wozniacki has 21 career WTA singles titles and held the No. 1 world ranking for 67 weeks from 2010-2012, placing her ninth all-time in terms of total number of weeks atop the chart in the women’s game. In 2014, she has advanced to the semifinals in Dubai and Monterrey and posted a quarterfinal effort in Miami.
“There are few places on Tour where I feel more comfortable than at the New Haven Open,” said Wozniacki. “The fans are spectacular and Yale gives the tournament a wonderful atmosphere. I’m looking forward to coming back in August, and hope that I can win another title.”

Adding her to players already committed – Grand Slam Champion Petra Kvitova, Defending Champion Simona Halep, world No. 11 Sara Errani, and rising WTA star Genie Bouchard means we already have a deep field that will only get better by August.”
Beyond a top-notch women’s field, fans will get to enjoy men’s tennis once again in New Haven as Fairfield native James Blake, a two-time New Haven Open Champion and former top-five ranked player, will take on two former world No. 1’s in Jim Courier and Andy Roddick. On Wednesday, August 20, Blake will matchup against Courier, and on Thursday, August 21, he will face-off against Roddick. Both matches will be played following the 7:00 p.m. WTA feature match on their respective nights, and they will be best of three sets, with a super tie-break played for the third set.
