LOS ANGELES — Tennis Channel, the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and tennis lifestyle, will carry nine Olympus US Open Series tournaments this summer, offering viewers nearly 80 hours of high-definition action from the six-week series that leads to the US Open in August. In addition to prime-time Sunday doubles finals, the network will cover singles semifinal, quarterfinal and early round matches in 2010, with live and first-run telecasts that begin Friday, July 23, and end Saturday, Aug. 21.
Men’s Olympus US Open Series tournaments on Tennis Channel in 2010 are: the Atlanta Tennis Championships (Atlanta), Farmers Classic (Los Angeles), Legg Mason Tennis Classic (Washington, D.C.), Rogers Masters (Toronto) and Western and Southern Financial Group Masters (Cincinnati) – with the two latter events also a part of the ATP Masters Series. The network’s four women’s events are: the Bank of the West Classic (Stanford, Calif.), Mercury Insurance Open (San Diego), Western and Southern Financial Group Women’s Open (Cincinnati) and Rogers Cup (Montreal).
Tennis Channel has partnered with the United States Tennis Association (USTA), the governing body of the Olympus US Open Series, since the circuit began in 2004, with fellow broadcasters ESPN and CBS Sports. In 2010 Tennis Channel will again produce all Olympus US Open Series coverage for the three networks, minus the two ATP Masters Series events and the series’ final competition, Pilot Pen Tennis at Yale.
On-Air Talent
Tennis Channel’s on-air team during the 2010 Olympus US Open Series includes a range of veteran broadcasters and former players. Play-by-play duties will be shared by Emmy Award-winning announcer Ted Robinson and former U.S. player and longtime Tennis Channel presence Leif Shiras. Former American tennis champions Lindsay Davenport, Jimmy Arias, Justin Gimelstob and Corina Morariu will serve as analysts, with Morariu occasionally splitting sideline-reporting responsibilities with Australian doubles specialist Ashley Fisher. A breakdown of the network’s Olympus US Open Series booth assignments follows, included in the on-air coverage schedule.
